Common Injuries
These are just some of the common injuries found in horse racing. Sometimes it may be a bad step, not conditioned properly, a weak skeletal structure, or pushed to hard.
Bowed Tendons: Many things can cause a bowed tendon. Not properly shoed/trimmed, an injury from racing etc.. Excercise and therapy can help the muscle fibers to heal.
Osselets :usually  occur in the fetlock joint  on the front legs of horses. More strain and pressure is put on the front legs. Rest and medication can help  with osselets.
Bucked Shins/splints:Can occur when horses train. A small fracture on the cannon bone can be caused from stress. Light exercise on soft ground is the best treatment for healing a splint/bucked shin.
Quarter Crack: Is a split in the hoof wall about a quarter or widest part of the hoof. A hoof specialist works on the quarter crack. Being worked a lot or weak hooves are the cause. (Big Brown)
Most Horse racing breakdowns occur in the fetlock joint and sesamoid bones.
